South Asian Focused Depression and Anxiety Therapy, San Francisco and Online

If you’re South Asian and living in America, you know what it feels like to live two very different lives.

As a South Asian, you might be from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, or Bangladesh. Either you immigrated a short time ago, as a child, or your parents moved to America and you were born here. Regardless of your family’s immigration story, it is a unique life experience that shapes who we are.

South Asian and Indian culture, values, background, and traditions can be very different from those we get accustomed to in America. That’s why many South Asians and Indians feel like they live in two separate worlds.

There’s your life at home with family and friends. And then there’s work or school where you may be one of few South Asian people. Sometimes you feel you need to be different versions of yourself just to exist within these separate worlds.

Your family and culture mean a lot to you, but sometimes the two cultures clash. Your career and your job are also very important to you, but being a minority at work, you sometimes face challenges there. You may feel you have to choose between your family’s expectations of you or your own desires; wanting to achieve more at work but not fitting into the work culture.

It can feel like you’re being pulled in many directions and sometimes it may make you feel depressed, anxious, confused, disconnected from others, guilty, isolated or even ashamed.

Being South Asian and living in America is a very unique experience.

You have rich culture, traditions, expectations and values from family and while that is mostly a positive thing in your life, there are times when it brings up a lot of conflict. You may be caught between two cultures, or you might relate to one culture more than the other. It’s difficult for other people to understand and seeking advice from friends or relatives doesn’t always help.

Indian counselor near me

I help South Asian individuals living in the US, dealing with the stress and struggle of navigating two different cultures, to find a sense of peace in who they are at home, at work, in their relationships and in their community.

I have a deep understanding and my own personal experience of what it’s like to grow up Indian within an American culture. I have a great deal of empathy for my South Asian clients who are trying to figure out family problems, work issues and where they fit it.

In therapy, I work with you to help understand the conflicts you are dealing with, figure out where to make changes and how you can problem solve solutions. As my client, you get my full attention.

As an Indian counselor, I can understand your unique experience and hear your perspective, without judgment. Working together, my many Indian and South Asian clients experience a stronger sense of who they are, the decisions that are right for them, and incorporating their culture, family traditions and expectations, to make it work for them.

I also really understand the stigma of mental health issues in our culture, and the beliefs about speaking to a therapist. I know it’s not easy to reach out and speak to a professional. I help my clients feel comfortable talking to an Indian therapist who understands them and can help.

I am an Indian Psychologist in San Francisco, California, and I understand what it’s like. Contact me for a free 15 minute consultation and find out how to get started making positive changes today that will benefit your life, your work, your family and your future.
